Masonry Institute of Tennessee - AIA Tennessee Awards

Seven breathtaking masonry structures were honored at the AIA Tennessee - Masonry Institute of Tennessee (MIT) awards ceremony on Aug. 9, 2005.

The 2005 Excellence Award went to The Hamilton Townhouses, located in the richly architectural neighborhood of Hillsboro Village in Nashville. Gilbert/McLaughlin Architects designed the structure, and Labor and Materials Inc. completed the masonry work.

The building contains nine town homes, each with three floors. The idea of "row houses" was incorporated in the design process to resemble urban residential districts in New York and Boston. The exterior is predominantly brick, with stacked and running bond patterns to create a higher level of detail. Limestone accents and wood siding complete the palette. Not only were the detail and design honored, but the resemblance to the detail and architecture surrounding the town homes were recognized as well.
