Essroc Cement Corporation
Nazareth, Pa.

New Products for Masonry Contractors

The use of manufactured stone veneer continues to gain popularity as an alternative cladding material. Essroc's goal was to create a cement-based product specifically designed for the manufactured stone veneer market. The company evaluated several additives and mortar mixes to create a product with excellent bond strength. A new brand name was developed: STONE-HOLD Cement for Stonework. Essroc is the first cement company to offer a product specifically for the manufactured stone veneer market. STONE-HOLD creates a stickier mortar, which aids in holding the stone to vertical surfaces. It also offers good workability — the No. 1 attribute for masons. For more information, visit www.essroc.com.

Masonry Tec Products
Moreno Valley, Calif.

New Products for Masonry Contractors

Masonry Tec Products' new Q-Xtreme diamond blades drastically reduce masonry saw cutting noise. Even with hearing protection, ordinary diamond blades are very loud — 120+ dB when cutting and 104 dB when spinning free. Compare that to the Q-Xtreme blade's 104 dB when cutting and 95 dB when spinning free. The Silent Core technology dampens the piercing, high pitch noise that is so fatiguing and potentially damaging to employee health. Q-Xtreme blades are specifically designed for mason contractors — fast cutting, long lasting and extremely quiet. For more information, call (951) 653-5700, e-mail pguth@masonrytec.com, or visit www.masonrytec.com.

M/Bed Block Systems LLC
St. Louis, Mo.

New Products for Masonry Contractors

The challenge of attaching fixtures to concrete masonry has been solved! M/Bed provides steel plates embedded into one or more faces of standard concrete masonry units (CMU) during manufacturing. Embeds are pieces of metal, fabricated in various configurations, that are used to attach accessories to concrete block walls. Although they are used extensively in detention buildings, such as jails and prisons, they are also used in other facilities such as warehouses, supermarkets and schools. The result is a permanent mounting area that can be installed by a mason right along with the rest of the wall. For more information, call (314) 570-3008, e-mail gene@mbedblock.com, or visit www.mbedblock.com.

Multiquip Inc.
Carson, Calif.

New Products for Masonry Contractors

Multiquip's new Whiteman 12-cubic-foot (340 liters) capacity plaster/mortar mixer is a stationary model that eliminates the axle interference on tow-behind mixers. This, along with standard forklift pockets, allows a forklift to pick up and safely move the mixer without delay. The heavy-duty WM120SHHDS hydraulic mixer is fueled by a 13-horsepower Honda gasoline engine designed for use on commercial construction sites. In addition to aiding movement on the job, the mixer's stationary design means there are no wheels to work around. Plus, the unit's stabilizer jacks are retractable and height adjustable for use at virtually any location. For more information, call (800) 421-1244, or visit www.multiquip.com.

The Turptech mortar chisel rake is a power tool accessory for angle grinders (minimum 700 W) that provides quick, safe and easy removal of old mortar from between brick courses prior to repointing. The mortar rake is just as efficient for both horizontal and vertical joint cleaning. The mortar rake is provided with three cemented tungsten carbide bits with efficient cutting angles, which leave space for the removal of the material milled out; the result is more square feet per hour. For more information, visit www.turptech.com, or contact the exclusive U.S. distributor, Kenseal Construction Products, at (888) 322-2855.
