FALLOUT SHELTER

VALPARISO, IND. - Joseph M. Clifford, President of the MCA of Indiana, has completed and opened for public inspection a family fallout shelter. Clifford built the bunker-type unit some 200 feet from his residence and the shelter has facilities for his family of six. The shelter was constructed in cooperation with the local Office of Civil Defense and Mobilization. Clifford states that the approximate cost of the shelter is $2,050. The overall size of the unit is 16 by 18 feet with the interior space measuring 10'8" by 10'8". Clifford has received excellent local newspaper coverage on this project and has utilized advertising of his own to promote the project for his firm.

OFFICIALS HEAR PERSON

ON GROUTING SYSTEM

Members of the Citrus Belt Chapter of the International Conference of Building Officials had as guests at their October meeting masonry contractors from the San Bernardino-Riverside Areas. The dinner meeting was held at the Colton American Legion Hall. President Russell Baker of Hemet was in charge.

Principal item on the agenda was a film and lecture on high-lift grouting for masonry walls, presented by Oscar Person, masonry contractor, of Burlingame, and Robert Harrington, Manager of the San Francisco Office of the Clay Brick and Tile Association. They discussed extensive tests proving high grouting to provide better quality and control; greater safety; and strangely enough, greater economy.
