Morgen Scaffolding Enclosure Simplifie
Protection for Winter Masonry Work
Most of the problems involved in enclosing masonry construction for winter work have been overcome by an enclosure system designed to work with Morgen Adjustable Scaffolding. The Morgen enclosure allows protection of masons, material and the wall to the degree the weather requires and eliminates the danger of handling canvas and heaters on elevated scaffolding. The enclosure for the entire wall is completely assembled at ground level. It never has to be dismantled until the wall is completed.
Morgen scaffolding is composed of sectional steel towers and carriages suspended by a cable and winch. The towers are joined together in sets of two by bracing bars and these units are combined in series for any length of wall.
The roof is supported by 6'6" long steel posts resting on the platform carriage and it is elevated automatically as the scaffolding platforms are raised. It is made of standard size panels of canvas or polyethylene, half the width of a bay of scaffolding.
If temperatures drop below 15 degrees, it is usually necessary to enclose both sides of the wall and to heat at the entire enclosure. This enclosure is also erected of interchangeable standard-size panels. To protect the wall on the scaffolding side, canvas is suspended from the under side of the mason's platform. As the platform rises with the building of the wall, it will pull up canvas from the pile or roll on the ground. Warm air between the wall and this canvas will keep the warm as the mortar sets.
If the other side of the wall must be protected, 2 x 6 long enough to project several inches past the wall is fastened to the Roof Support. Canvas hung from these supports is also pulled up from a pile or the enclosure is raised. Heat is applied as needed.
