The San Francisco mason contracting firm of William A. Rainey & Son is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The firm, now headed by Bill Rainey, Sr., was formed Jan. 1, 1901.

Herman L. May, MCAA secretary and convention chairman, reports his convention committee hard at work preparing plans for the 12th annual MCAA convention next year at the Shamrock Hilton in Houston.

At its recent meeting in Las Vegas, The Executive Board decided to hold the 1963 convention in Pittsburgh. The decision for Pittsburgh was influenced by a poll of exhibitors as to their preferences. All but one exhibitor replied to the survey.

Golfers had their day at the board meeting last month in Las Vegas. Mrs. William Rainey, playing like a champion on the Tournament of Champions Golf Course at the Desert Inn, shot a blazing 88 to take honors. Don Sidwell teed up and clipped a drive some 250 yards down the fairway. The force of the drive detached the head of the driver from the shaft and it went sailing on down the fairway to rest but some 25 yards short of the ball.

Everett D. Sperry, MCAA member Honolulu, Hawaii, is seriously ill. MCAA members and colleagues can write him at: 842 Marin Drive, Honolulu, Hawaii. Harry M. Strauss, Jr., Alabama vice president, combined the Las Vegas meeting with an extended tour of the west coast where he will study the high-lift grouting system developed by Oscar Person in San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer, Cook County chapter, celebrated their wedding anniversary at the Las Vegas meeting.

The St. Louis MCA will hold its annual picnic Saturday, July 22, at Holiday Valley picnic grounds. Value of all new construction put in place last month totaled approximately $1.2 billion, 11 percent above the total for the previous month. The MCA Milwaukee will hold its annual picnic June 24. The newest member of the Milwaukee chapter is James Lauterback.

The Minneapolis Chapter will build a brick home this summer to be presented as a grand prize in a contest sponsored by Foremost Dairies. Foremost will spend approximately $60,000 in promoting the event via radio, TV, newspapers and on-site publicity.

The Arizona Masonry Guild, Inc., Phoenix, has been cited by the Arizona Society of Architects, AIA, for outstanding.
