Leading Sewing Machine Maufacturer Builds Beautiful Regional Center in Syosset, New York
Many of the nation's leading manufacturing firms are finding the New York City suburban area one of the finer places in which to locate their subsidiary plants. One such firm is The Singer Manufacturing Company which has just rently completed its Regional Center in Syosset, Long Island, New York. It is estimated by authoritative sources that approximately 90 percent of new industrial construction in the New York metropolitan area has been done outside the city limits.
The project was designed by the architectural firm of Fordyce & Hamby Associates, New York City, with Mr. William Hamby personally handling the building. The General Contractor was E. W. Howell Co., Babylon, New York. The Ray Contracting Co., Inc., Syosset, New York, did the masonry work.
There are many interesting and unusual features to the building. The masonry units are 4 x 4 x 16 inches made from white marble chips, white beach sand and white portland cement. One wall combines both unusual brickwork and glass. Details of this are shown on following page.
