NEW LOOK at Owens-Illinois

Royal Gray Reduces Glare

"A bold new look" has been added to the Owens-Illinois glass blocks with the introduction of Royal Gray in-the-glass hollow blocks. A rich, lustrous gray color was selected by Owens after an extensive scientific testing program by glass technologists of various shades of gray. Sampled by some of the country's leading architectural firms over a period of months, the new Royal Gray color met with unanimous interest and approval and fills a long-standing architectural need for a neutral color-in-the-glass.

"Especially outstanding," reports E. P. Lockart, vice president of Kimble Glass, an O-I subsidiary, "is the ability of Royal Gray to reduce sun brightness and glare. This product achieves the lowest brightness level ever achieved in building glass."

"Royal Gray can control light to the point where color-pictures, for instance, can be shown in schools without the necessity of shading devices," Mr. Lockart added.

Available in both Prismatic and Vista patterns in 12 inch square blocks, Royal Gray joins "Shade Aqua" and "Shade Green" and the traditional white to form a wider range than ever before of color selection for architectural design needs. The Prismatic block construction provides day light diffusion and privacy while the Vista block gives a view to the exterior.

Architects, builders and designers will find Royal Gray blocks functional as well as attractive and have the choice of using them in combinations with other clear, patterned or ceramic-faced blocks as well as the color-in-the-glass blocks to achieve unusual design effects.
