Home-Study Course
(Continued from page 5)

The Department of Defense announced today that a new 40-lesson home-study course is intended for architects and engineers who are unable to attend present classroom courses in fall-out shelter analysis. They can now, upon successful completion of it, be certified by the Department of Defense to design and evaluate shelters that provide maximum radiation protection in case of nuclear attack. Art L. Pittman, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Civil Defense, said 3,500 architects and engineers have already completed the semester courses or intensive two-week courses offered in the past two years at several schools and universities.

The new home-study course was developed by the University of Wisconsin in conjunction with the Office of Civil Defense. The content is based on the most advanced concepts of protective construction. The university will charge a $25 fee to cover registration, texts, lessons and postage. The Defense Department will pay the course preparation, grading of lessons, and administrating final evaluations.

Architects and engineers desiring to take the course should contact their nearest state or regional civil defense office as early as possible and obtain enrollment forms and instructions.

Safety Hand Book
A handbook for developing safety programs in offices has been published by the National Safety Council. The "Safety Handbook for Office Supervisors" is the latest of the Council's manuals of accident prevention and the first written expressly for office and clerical work.

The handbook describes causes of common office injuries, safe practices, proper use of office furniture and machines, smart dress, fire prevention and control, and maintenance of safe conditions throughout the office. Two chapters tell how the supervisor can make safety a part of office operations and how a safety program works.

Single copies of the book can be ordered from the National Safety Council, 425 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, III. 60611. The cost is $2.15, with reduced prices available on orders for 10 or more copies.

YOUR PROFITS MAY BE TAKING A BUNCING TOO!
Worn Bearings, Grooved Arbors create Vibration and Vibration Can Beat Your Masonry Blades to Death!

You know what happens to Tire life when Bearings are bad or wheels mis-aligned. The same vibration in a Masonry Saw can destroy Blades in a fraction of their normal life!

Check for "play" or vertical movement of the Arbor Shaft, the most minute amount can be SERIOUS! Equally important check the Arbor for "grooving". Diamond Blades especially MUST FIT SNUGLY. For your cost protection and operator safety NEVER use Wing Nuts for mounting Blades.
