Imixtures For Concrete
The American Concrete Institute announces publication of "Admixtures for Concrete," an expanded and updated version of a committee report issued previously in 1944 and 1954. Prepared by ACI Committee 212 (Admixtures for Concrete), the report was developed because of the growing use of admixtures and the availability of new information on the properties and applications of admixtures.
The 46-page report appeared in the November 1963 issue of the ACI JOURNAL. Reprints, in durable paper covers, are available at $1.00 each from the ACI, P. O. Box 4754, Redford Station, Detroit, Michigan 48219.
The report classifies admixtures into 15 groups, according to type of materials constituting the admixtures, and to the characteristic effects of their use. Where an admixture possesses properties identifiable with more than one group, it is discussed with the group that describes its most important effect on concrete.
The 15 types of admixtures discussed are as follows: (1) accelerating; (2) water-reducing and set-controlling; (3) grouting; (4) air-entraining; (5) air-detraining; (6) gas-forming; (7) expansion-producing; (8) finely divided mineral; (9) damp-proofing and permeability-reducing; (10) bonding; (11) alkali-aggregate-expansion-reducing; (12) corrosion-inhibiting; (13) fungicidal, germicidal, and insecticidal; (14) flocculating; and (15) coloring.

After a long, dry sermon, the minister announced he would like to meet with the Board after services. The first man to arrive was a stranger and the minister said, "you must have misunderstood, I announced a meeting of the Board." "I know," replied the man, "and if there is anyone more bored than I am, I'd like to meet him."
Small boy, turning green puffing on a cigarette, looked sickly at his chum and admitted, "Even with 20,000 tiny filters, I get sick."
