such application has been made, can the applicant expect to receive its license, assuming the applicant is otherwise qualified?
In addition, for certain persons or corporations already qualified to do business in certain foreign states and/or who hold a contractors' license, a decision must be made whether or not to withdraw from a state after a contract has been completed. Before doing so, however, consideration should be given to keeping the corporation qualified and in good standing with the licensing authority, particularly if there is any possibility of obtaining further business in the same state.
Maintenance of the contractors' license will enable to bid and proceed on contracts without the delay of obtaining a new license. Often it may cost less to remain qualified than to withdraw and requalify later, but this is essentially a business decision, ultimately decided on costs involved and the likelihood of future business.
Obviously, this article cannot and should not be construed or used as a substitute for competent legal counsel in this matter. It is only meant to alert the reader that timely advice may be sought from the contractors' legal counsel in order to submit a responsible bid as required under the appropriate governing body or local authority. Good business should not be lost due to rejection of an otherwise responsible bid for mere failure to comply with a local regulation.
Unique Design In San Rafael
In the function of producing something new and attractive in building design, Architect Robert Severin, A.I.A., of San Rafael, California, has developed an interesting variation in the use of concrete block. Shown here is the entrance to the Loch Lomond Marina Shopping Center in San Rafael built by Crown Development Co. for Robert McCarthy, Sr. The standard blocks used in these walls are scored with random vertical lines to produce a wall texture which is both unusual and interesting. According to Architect Severin, scoring was done with a masonry saw on the job so that no special tooling or stock was needed in the block plant. Additional cost was negligible.
