No other reinforcing has all these features - found on all three grades of WAL-LOK. WAL-LOK is double deformed for maximum bond. The tensile strength of WAL-LOK is retained after welding. WAL-LOK has rectangular design for stronger welds and more steel in the mortar. WAL-LOK Crossrods project for 4 extra strong mortar locks at each weld. Crossrods hold WAL-LOK up off the blocks for complete embedment in the mortar. Write for free brochure today.

Maximum Benefits with Brick
A 1,000 capacity Catholic girls' high school and convent now under construction in Huguenot, Staten Island, New York, will depend on brick and precast concrete to obtain maximum benefits from prevailing breezes and protection against glare during summer months. The masonry construction will also serve to reduce heat loss to a minimum in cold weather.
Architects Chapman, Evans and Delehanty faced a rather unusual situation when designing the 120,000 square foot structure since St. Joseph By-The-Sea will use its classrooms all year long and not just during the normal school term. Because of this factor, both the school and convent had to be designed for efficient year round operation ond comfort. The architects decided on a sawtooth plan for the convent which ensures that each room will command a view of the bay and lake. Air conditioning could be eliminated, they reasoned, if construction materials with superior insulating qualities were selected. Unglazed white brick with weathered joints was chosen for the convent dormintory wing and precast concrete panels for the school. White brick was chosen specifically for its ability to reflect the summer heat.
St. Joseph By-The-Sea will have 23 classrooms, a library, earth science, chemistry, biology and language laboratories. Other rooms will include a student's lounge, gymnasium and a cafeteria designed to permit simultaneous or independent use of space. The building will also feature a choral practice room, bookstore, medical suite and several administrative rooms.
The new school and convent is being built by White Construction Co., Inc., for the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Mt. St. Vincent On-The-Hudson, Riverdale, New York. Completion is scheduled for September, 1964.
