Masonry at its finest is represented in this Shellbourne Study Camp of The Work of God Catholic Institute recently completed near Valparaiso, Indiana. Starting with 4 acres of rolling wooded land, the architects with a skillful touch, designed a beautiful structure that harmonizes with this natural setting.
The building is constructed of 14 inch wide load bearing walls composed of face brick interior and exterior with concrete masonry, and one inch insulation between. The lower level spandrels are of green stone while the second floor spandrels are of pre-cast exposed aggregate concrete panels.
The huge fireplace and long attractive retaining walls are of Pennsylvania green stone. The floors are constructed of concrete with the roof utilizing precast concrete planks. The brick work in the Chapel, as well as that on the exposed masonry walls shows the fine craftsmanship of the J. Argenta firm.
This Study Camp is a conference center which provides facilities for retreats, ser. MASONRY July, 19
