Over 1,500 of these polished gronite panels were installed on this job. The panels were 13 feet high, 8 feet wide, and weighed about 6,000 pounds. These granite slabs were used to veneer the exterior surface of the building. Note: when the panel is being hoisted from the ground two clamps are used. The anchoring system was composed of an angle iron at each floor height. Dowels went into the stone below as well as to the stone above. Lead pressure relieving joints were used between the angle iron and the granite. With the exterior backup being poured concrete, and with only one panel between windows, the architects used four stainless steel anchors per jamb side with two power driven pins per anchor. A total of 16,000 pins and 16,000 loads were used to anchor the facing of this building. In addition to the granite facing, all exposed concrete columns were faced with granite. Approximately 11,000 square feet of flooring was also utilized in this building.
