What's Happening To High Bond Mortars?

modern-day construction because, like structural steel or reinforced concrete, the high bond unit masonry will only perform well if it is properly put together. In high bond masonry, we can truly point out that "Quality Ingredients plus Quality Workmanship = Quality Construction."

Chose Brick For Manhattan Skyscraper

Construction a fourteen story office building to be erected at Worth and Church Streets, Broadway and Thomas Place, Manhattan, is scheduled to start early next year. Sponsored by Sylvan Lawrence Co., Inc., the new building will be worth $9,000,000 upon its completion and will have 40,000 square feet of rentable space in addition to parking facilities for 125 automobiles.

Plans for the structure, designed by Fred Safra, New York City architect, show that the building will be set back from the sidewalk with a fifteen foot plaza. The building's facade will consist of light bronze glazed brick, anodized aluminum and glass curtain wall. An unusual feature will be both indoor and outdoor tennis courts. Two enclosed courts are planned for the twelfth floor and two open courts will occupy space on the roof above.

The architect decided to use brick for the facade because of its superior ability to withstand adverse weather conditions, a particularly important qualification in the waterfront location where the building is to be erected. "Brick's self-cleaning properties- every rainstorm washes a brick building was another influencing factor in the choice of material."

Structural engineers for the building, expected to be completed sometime in 1967, are Atlas & Rosenberg.
