Time-Saver Standards: A Handbook of Architectural Design, Fourth Edition is a comprehensive summary of essential data which serves to expedite and simplify the work of architects, engineers, and contractors. The book, prepared by nearly 50 outstanding authorities, is replete with experience-tester facts and details.

This new edition provides greatly increased coverage in each area and includes completely new features on space frames, suspension structures, domes, curtain walls, skylights, plastics, motel design, homes for the aged, sliding glass doors, prestressed concrete sections and tables, cavity wall contruction, and many other areas. Exceptionally through treatment is given to such subjects as acoustics, structural design, heating and air conditioning, and special requirements for school buildings.

The major sections of this giant workbook of architectural design data are: Basic Data; Structural Design; Building Materials, Components, and Techniques; Environmental Control; Design Elements-Residential; Design Elements Nonresidential; and Site Planning and Recreaction. This edition is over one-half larger than previous editions, and more than two-thirds of the material is either totally new or completely revised.

His work is primarily in the custom residence field, although it has also included commercial work and housing projects. Callender has been involved in many consulting and research projects, including arctic shelters, veteran's and low-cost housing, and school construction costs. Professor of architecture at Pratt Institute, where he teaches design and construction, Callender has authored many articles in professional and popular magazines.
