Contrast In Styles

Structure: Reading Room Addition, Sixth Church of Christ Science, Portland, Oregon
Architect: Ralph Bonadurer, A.I.A.
General Contractor: Walter Beebe
Mason Contractor: Ken Parker Mason Contractor, Inc., MCAA

Using a contrasting style of architecture Ralph C. Bonadurer, A.I.A., has utilized a contemporary design on this Reading Room Addition to the Sixth Church of Christ Science, Portland, Oregon, to fit the mood of the adjoining 30-year old structure with its many refinements.

With a southern exposure the architect created a solar screen wall to eliminate the glare and provide the privacy to the reader yet giving the facade an interesting and attractive appearance. These walls rise 14 feet and are constructed of units of 6 x 6 x 6 dimension with horizontal reinforcement.

The addition uses a modified flemish bond to match the existing building which was designed by White- house, Stanton and Church, F.A.I.A.
