Aeroil Products Co. Inc. announces their all new "Brick & Block Truck." Designed to handle 10 unbanded blocks or 100 banded bricks. It is built in accordance to the MCAA unit package specification No. 1-67. The "Truck" is equipped with heavy-duty 12" pneumatic tires.
The spacing of the wheels is adjustable so that the truck can be used on either ledge-type ramps or plank runways. Supplied with four reinforced tines. An optional steel platform to handle boxes and bags of cement and mortar is available. Aeroil Products Co., Inc., 69 Wesley Street, South Hackensack, New Jersey 07606.
Drive Axle
Using a unique widespread drive axle configuration, Concrete Masonry Corporation, Elyria, Ohio, has combined maximum operating efficiency and payload with minimum weight on its half-cab, flatbed trucks.
The trucks, which deliver concrete blocks to difficult off-highway sites, have eight-foot spread drive axles. This unusual configuration is made possible by a drive axle air suspension system developed by Neway Equipment Company, Muskegon, Mich.
Neway Model ARD drive axle air suspensions provide automatic load equalization between the widespread axles, providing maximum loading of 19,000 pounds per axle, including the steering axle.
With the conventional suspension previously used, tandem drive axles and a tag were required. Off the highway, the vehicles were prone to hang-ups in difficult terrain, according the R. R. Haller, Concrete Masonry's plant superintendent.
Trucks with the Air Ride drive axle configuration operate freely on or off highway, he said.
In addition to reducing weight, eliminating the tag axle also reduced vehicle bridge length from 28 feet to 24 feet. With the shorter length, the trucks can pull a pup trailer to achieve gross vehicle weight of 78,000 pounds.
Concrete Masonry Corporation now operates four trucks equipped with the widespread air suspended axles. Three new trucks and one older vehicle were converted to the special configuration at the Neway plant in Muskegon.
The Ohio firm uses the trucks primarily to haul concrete blocks. Frames are designed to deflect approximately 2 inches in the center under full load and give extreme torsional flexibility for off-highway operation. All the trucks have self-loading booms.
Duplex tires save 300 pounds per axle in weight and offer better flotation off the highway. The flotation tires are especially effective with the air suspensions. The tires do not override the suspensions and create bounce, as they did with the conventional suspensions.
Front drive axles on the vehicles are equipped with Neway's Flex-O-Brake units, which provide a spring-actuated braking system for emergency stops and for parking. The system is actuated automatically in event of accidental loss of air.

Coated Gloves
Coated Gloves with permanently bonded particles of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insure good gripping properties and additional wear when handling such abrasive materials as cinder blocks, bricks, flagstone, and other building materials. The gloves, widely used on construction jobs, have a napped jersey liner which cushions the hand and protects against cuts and abrasions. Further information about the fully-coated PVC gloves is available from Jomac-North, Inc., 863 Easton Road, Warrington, Pa. 18976.
Precast Style Step
Masonry sides and risers combined with precast walking surfaces are used in a unique system of step construction. Precast Style Step treads and decks are laid up on brick, split block or stone risers to complete a step which can be designed to individualize a home, yet, take advantage of the economy, strength, and good looks of precast reinforced concrete walking surfaces.
Available in 4, 5, and 6 foot lengths. Style Step fiberglass forms are one piece, quick stripping and light enough for one man to handle. A patterned surface for safety and cast-in-aluminum rail anchors are features. Style Step treads and decks can be produced in a small shop, or can be poured on the job with excess concrete from floors or sidewalks.
A feature of Style Step treads is the built in lintel which carries the riser to the next step, thus allowing the completed step to be hollow, requiring only a perimeter footing or floating slab. New York Cage
A "New York Cage" is now offered as an optional accessory for Champion Jumbo hoists, hydraulically operated materials hoists.
It is called a "New York Cage" because it was originally developed to meet the requirements of New York State Safety authorities. The cage is attached to the hoists' cantilevered platform. It consists of three sides and a top, with the side opposite the building (loading side) easily movable up and down to serve as a gate.
The Champion "New York Cage" can be installed on Champion Jumbo hoists now in use. For more information contact Champion Manufacturing Company, 3700 Forest Park Ave., St. Louis, Missouri 63108.
Versatile Crane
Versatile Crane This Lorain MC-25H hydraulic crane, which converts to a tower, is owned by Wilmar Properties Associates, Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pa. Using a 50 ft. boom with a 50 ft. extension, the MC-25H is lifting sand, brick, block and cement to the roof of what will be an 88 unit apartment building.
Carbide Masonry Drill
Extensive field testing has revealed that Rawl deep-flute style masonry carbide drills are particularly effective in the new hammer drills being manufactured by leading power tool manufacturers, according to a spokesman for The Rawiplug Company, Inc., New Rochelle, New York. A heavier carbide blank, a special body design providing extra support at the drilling tip and longer, deeper flutings are given as the reasons for the longer performance and prevention of excessive heating, a leading cause of drill failure.
The Rawl deep-flute carbide masonry drill is now in national distribution along with the standard fast-spiral style. Both are available in diameters from " to 1½" and in lengths up to 18" for through holes.
