Four meetings will be held each year-Winter, Spring, Fall and Summer the summer meeting being a combination outing and annual meeting, in which the wives of members are invited to attend.
Safety Record Achieved
A half-million manhour safety record has been set by employees of Dewey Portland Cement Company's Linwood, Iowa, plant.
The safety mark is for one year of operation without a single disabling or loss-of-time injury, according to Fred S. Crane, vice president, operations.
In honor of the achievement, the firm treated its over 200 employees and their spouses to Mississippi river cruise parties. The parties were held in two shifts in order that employees could maintain Dewey's 24-hour plant operation schedule.
The safety mark, the first one achieved at the plant since 1960, makes Dewey eligible to receive an award from the Portland Cement Association.
East Meets West
A group of 82 prominent American architects and their wives participated in a Soviet-American symposium held recently in Moscow, on architecture and urban design.
The project was considered particularly significant in view of current East-West tensions. The trip, planned several months ago, was re-evaluated and re-endorsed by the U.S. State Department as "more important than ever."
Heading the American contingent as co-chairmen of the program were Morris Ketchum, Jr., Morris Ketchum, Jr. & Associates, New York, past president of the American Institute of Architects; and Archibald C. Rogers, Rogers, Taliaferro, Kostritsky, Lamb, Baltimore, Maryland.
Mr. Ketchum presented two lectures: "American Architecture Today," and "American Architecture Tomorrow," which covered the evolution of American building over the last 50 years, and the problems and promise of the future redevelopment of urban America.
Mr. Rogers also addressed the symposium and discussed "Urban Problems in America" and "Rebuilding America."
