'4 Hours Plus' Available
"Four Hours (Plus)," a new publication of the Vermiculite Institute, presents data of special interest to designers of fire walls and fire-resistive insulated construction.
The piece is a single condensed sheet, summarizing the performance during a fire test of an eight-inch, load-bear concrete masonry wall filled with water-repellent vermiculite. The test had to be terminated at six hours and five minutes, out of concern for the furnace and the testing apparatus.
A time-temperature chart shows the performance of the wall, compared with the ASTM standard time-temperature curve for the furnace.
A table gives requirements for various types of concrete masonry units.
"Four Hours (Plus) is available from Vermiculite Institute, 208 South La Salle St., Chicago, III. 60604.
New Numbering System
4763
505
House numbers cut into a "brick" of permanent white Vermont Marble are the newest decorator solution to the practical problem of attractive, maintenance-free house numbering. The markers weigh only 35 lbs. and are brick high and brick wide, but only half as deep, to simplify installation. Numbers to six digits are deeply sandblasted with a V cut and treated with black lacquer for greater legibility.
