"John Gardner's Tennis Ranch on the Camelback" is the name of the condominium apartment project being built in the shadows of the famous historical landmark, Camelback Mountain, near Phoenix, Arizona. The buildings will be individually owned with all services provided.

Architects Benedict, Caviness & Associates selected concrete masonry unit construction with "spancrete" as the decking. Because of the rugged mountain terrain, masonry contractor Guy E. Apple was required to employ the use of a 30-ton P&H crane and an Austin-Western hydraulic crane (cherry-picker) to stock the materials. Access to the "backside" area of Camelback Mountain is very limited.

The bricklayers, while laying up the walls, are required to lay the units in and out from the line to provide a rough shadowed wall finish. A soupy mortar wash is then applied over the surface.
