Work Study is designed to meet the
requirements of practicing methods
and time-study personnel, foremen,
managers, and planners, as well as
providing a typical work study course
for those taking any of the various
institution examinations in Method
Study or Work Measurement, such as
City and Unions or Institute of Work
Study, or following courses in engi-
neering, building, and management.
The book, recently published by Mc-
Graw-Hill in England and now avail-
able in the United States, includes
examples exercises and typical exam-
ination questions.

Principal definitions in the book are
given according to the British Stan-
dards Institute glossary of work study
terms, and an outline demonstration of
the Critical Examination process is
provided. In addition, bonus examples

J. A. Larkin was originally trained
as a toolmaker and has subsequently
worked as a jig and tool draftsman,
a planning engineer, and a production
engineer for a group of seven com-
panies. He became Lecturer at the
Work Study School, Cranfield, and is,
at present, Lecturer in the Department
of Industrial Administration at the
Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
