Monday Holiday Survey
When George Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans' Day become Monday holidays for federal government employees in 1971, many employers in private industry will not be cheering.
According to a survey of personnel executives sponsored jointly by the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA) and The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. (BNA), nearly two thirds of more than 200 respondents believe that their companies would stand pat on their present paid-holiday practices if a Monday-holiday law took effect in their states. One fourth said an existing holiday, such as a "floating" holiday, might be exchanged for one of the new Monday holidays. And only a little over one tenth indicated that their companies might consider adding to their present number of holidays.

New Type Bond Beam
Sub-purlin bulb tees, produced by the Inland Steel Company, make superior bond beams when embedded in the top course of a masonry wall, locking concrete blocks together and eliminating the need for reinforcing bars or joist inserts.
Concrete blocks can be ordered especially for use with bulb tees, or regular concrete blocks can converted by clipping out the top center portion of the block. Wet mortar is poured in the trough and the bulb tee inserted head down. The concrete dries, forming a tight lock around the head of the tee, making the bulb tee an intergral part of the wall. The flange of the tee, providing a continuous steel strip across the top of the wall, offers a level surface for placing joists, and also eliminates makeshift anchorages when joists must be moved because of roof openings or other obstructions.
