Houston, Texas. Shamrock-Hilton Hotel. February 6-9
Big, vibrant, beautiful. That's Houston. A dynamic city of 1.3 million, it is the sixth largest in the nation and headquarters for U.S. manned space exploration. It is the home of an ever-widening "Astrodomain," with the world's only air-conditioned domed stadium as its nucleus, home of the world's tallest masonry monument, and home of the astronauts. It covers a lot of territory (453 square miles), and is still growing.
In a relatively brief span of years, the vital Houston-Gulf Coast area has become one of the great centers of industry, commerce and population of the nation and the world. Its continuing vigor brings change and development so rapidly as to almost defy description. As one recent vistor to the city put it: "The hyphen in Houston-Gulf Coast may be considered a symbol of the 'dash' inherent in the region."
The greater Houston area has many faces constantly forming new profiles, but one thing is constant-Houston is hospitable and eager for the visitor to discover its many wonders.
Take the Astrodome, for example. Considered by many the eighth wonder of the world, this unique, $38 million stadium seats more than 55,000 for conventions, 46,000 for baseball, 53,000 for football, and 66,000 for boxing. It is the home of the Houston Astros, Houston Oilers, and the University of Houston Cougars. Nowhere else can spectators enjoy such comfort and luxury while witnessing a spectacular variety of events, including bullfights, polo, rodeos and Hollywood headliners.
