Fred Bassetti, FAIA presented an amusing and enlightening discussion on the approach the architect makes in designing a masonry building and research required to achieve the ultimate in creative masonry with the budget allowance. 35mm slides of his many Northwest projects served to illustrate his knowledge of the potential use of masonry in todays construction.

George Miller found a warm reception waiting for him when he was invited by Mrs. LeRoy Tarp, chairman of the Ladies Champagne Brunch, to speak briefly to the group. The decor was carefully worked out by Mrs. Tarp and her committee to blend with the color tones of the room. Name tags were made of salt water drift wood with the names burned into the wood and fasteners glued to the back side. Potted flower pots contained recipe holders supported by pipe cleaner stems. A Heloise nylon pot scrubber was given to each of the ladies. Mrs. Julia Shadel gave a very exciting demonstration talk on contemporary makeup for daytime and evening wear.

The men's luncheon gave a respite from the busy schedule of the conference sessions and the exhibit area tour. A brief program using 35mm film on the stone industry rounded out the activities at this event. Members from the Northwest and Canada found considerable ideas to exchange during this change of pace.
