NADD Report
By: Jeffrey L. Brock

Washington, D. C. NADD's Industry Sales Seminar held March 12 in Chicago was very well attended by NADD/SCPI members as well as numerous non-members. Sales Psychologist John Shirley's ability to relate to our industry assured NADD of a very successful program.

The agenda, however, did not end with human motivation alone. Bruce A. Martin, P. E., Senior Engineer, Technical Services of Acme Brick Company. Oklahoma City, presented an updating of the contemporary bearing wall concept which was very well received.

Two issues stemming from the NADD Board of Directors' meeting on the previous day revolved around the highly regarded NADD Advanced Training Course. It was decided that every effort be made to simplify the technology, math and language to coincide with the nontechnical background of some of the students and the fact that they are going to be discussing concepts, applications and relative merits of design, not actually designing. After this level is reached, backup literature giving actual methods of designing, test methods and results, etc, should be available.

New subjects should be included as they become significant in our changing times. Costs and concepts relative to panelization should be included in the next course. The Advanced Training Committee and Chairman C. K. Davis of American Brick Company in Chicago have done an outstanding job in providing valued recommendations for future courses.

The Michigan Chapter of NADD has a program working in conjunction with the AIA Annual Meeting in Detroit, June 20-24, which promises to be a well-planned, all-NADD program.
