the significant message of masonry's low initial cost, its low ultimate cost, and the savings which can accrue from all-weather construction.
Fire Protection
The third program theme for 1972-fire protection-will be directed toward retaining the traditional masonry market of firewalls, stairwells, elevator shafts and other interior partitions.
Local Promotion
In supporting local promotional groups, IMI's aim is to provide the tools, advice and counsel that the groups need to undertake effective promotional programs in their areas. To provide these tools during 1972, IMI will develop and distribute to local supporting groups a promotion kit for each of the three program themes.
These kits will include such items as press releases, radio scripts, editorial clipsheets, direct mail literature, advertising layouts and copy, and, where appropriate, seminar materials. The kits, along with IMI's advice and counsel, will serve as the foundation for the very important promotion programs which are needed on the local level.
Significant Step
IMI Chairman Donald R. Bidwell said, "The promotion program mapped out for 1972 is an important one which represents a significant step ahead for IMI and the masonry industry as a whole. We are really underway now.
"Just how extensively we can promote our three themes during the year," he added, "depends, of course, upon how well we proceed in obtaining support from local groups not yet participating in IMI. However, based upon the excellent response from local groups during the past year, I am confident that we will receive the support needed to tackle the job ahead of us."

legislation is sponsored by Democratic Presidential hopeful Edmund Muskie. He was able to push the measure through the Senate last year by a big vote. President Nixon, though, objected and is seeking some significant changes. He claims the clean-up costs would exceed what the public is ready to pay.
The Senate bill orders spending that almost doubles the Nixon request. It sets tough water-quality standards.
FINANCIAL AND SECURITIES MATTERS WILL GET SPECIAL ATTENTION
in 1972. Congress will move very quickly on Nixon's request for a gold-price change. There is bi-partisan support to devalue as part of the recent currency pact. And an overhaul of the U.S. financial system may get study by the Congress. Committees may begin reviewing recommendations of a Presidential Commission; its report urges broadening the services banks and savings and loans can render. But no bill will pass this year. Many suggestions are highly controversial.
Congress may act in 1972 to regulate the securities industry further. Legislators are concerned over the failure of many brokerage firms last year. They want to protect customers who leave cash or securities in the hands of their brokers.
NEW PROTECTIONIST SENTIMENT WILL BUILD STEAM
in Congress this year. The settlement of the international economic crisis won't blunt the drive. Reason: Improvement in the U.S. trade picture will come slowly-too slowly. The AFL-CIO has already gathered impressive support for quota limitations.
