Masonry Institute Names
Jamieson Exec. Director
Thomas N. Jamieson has been appointed executive director of the Masonry Institute, San Francisco, according to an announcement by Oscar F. Person, institute president. In this capacity, Jamieson also assumes managerial responsibilities of both the Brick & Tile Association and the Northern California Concrete Masonry Association. Jamieson moves to his new post from San Diego, where he was executive director of both the Unit Masonry Association of San Diego and the Masonry Contractors Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties. He has been in the masonry field for 28 years since becoming a mason contractor in 1946.
Person also announced that Gordon A. Knapp has been named public relations director of the Masonry Institute. He had been assistant manager of the institute since mid-1971 and public relations/promotion consultant to the organization since 1956.
Equipment Distributors
Elect N. N. Economou
Nicholas N. Economou was elected and installed as president of the 1,400-member Associated Equipment Distributors at the group's 54th annual convention in Chicago's Conrad Hilton Hotel, January 21-24.
Economou is president of Western Road Machinery Co. and Western Road International, both of Salt Lake City, and president of Southwest Machinery Co., Phoenix. More than 4,000 equipment distributors and manufacturers from throughout the United States and Canada attended the meeting.
GP Completes Contract
General Portland Inc., Dallas, Texas, has announced the completion of a long-term contract to purchase cement from Cementos Anahuac del Golfo, S.A. in Mexico. The contract calls for approximately 275,000 tons of cement during 1973 which would be available to the company's southeastern and southwestern U.S. markets with shipments increasing to more than 750,000 tons per year in 1976 through 1979.
General Portland has nine cement plants in the United States serving markets in 21 states.
