Brick Certainly Can Be Beautiful!
Lovely Gail Henriksen isn't an official member of the Miami Masonry Guild, but no doubt her presence helped get the word about brick masonry across to the thousands of visitors at the recent Miami Home Show. General theme of the Masonry Guild booth was decorative uses of brick in the home and office. Special brochures were distributed comparing fire resistance of masonry with other building materials.
Adobe masonry for Financial Park
The contemporary use of classic adobe masonry in the new Bowling Green Financial Park, Sacramento, Calif., has won plaudits for the architects, builders and owners of the complex. The unique park was designed by Stevens-Zellmer Associates, AIA, Fresno, and developed by William Cook Co. of Sacramento. The masonry was completed by John Jackson Masonry (MCAA) of Sacramento. This is the first office complex of its kind in Sacramento. Said William Cook, Jr., president of William Cook Co., "Our architects and land planners have designed a totally new business environment, using the massive strength of enduring adobe walls lightened with window walls opening onto courtyards lighted by the soft glow of gas lanterns and landscaped with lush tropical plants." Pictured here is Florin West, the first completed phase of a planned $8 million park close to the Southgate Shopping Center.
Tennis Club Blends Brick and Steel
The T Bar M Tennis Club, Dallas, Texas, has a center building of adobe brick and two side buildings of galvanized steel produced by Inland Steel Co., Chicago. The center club house, overlooking four courts, features sauna baths, exercise and recreation rooms, pro shop, kitchen, dining room and cocktail lounge. The warm feeling of brick blends well with the steel to form a long-lasting, attractive structure.
