Masonry Highlights New Jersey School
Frank Cunningham, business agent for BM&PIU Local 28-N.J., stands in a conversation pit which students use during free time at the new $3-million masonry high school in Tenafly, N.J. The school also has a resource center with wireless tape system that keeps a dozen programs at student's disposal, a dialogue center, an auditorium accommodating 100 to 500 students in its various sections, a gym and an auxiliary gym for flexible groupings and other innovative features. Architects Hamnett, Bouman, and Blanche, of Trenton, designed the school and chose masonry for its durability, economy and aesthetics, according to the International Masonry Institute. Twenty-five BM&PIU masonry craftsmen, whose foreman was Rudy Bucci, built the 185,000 sq. ft. structure working with mason and general contractor Cerami Construction Co. of Newark.
