1974 MCAA Trade Show Exhibitors
It's good old-fashioned American business sense to spend your dollars with firms that have an interest in your common welfare. The policy of the established mason contractor who patronizes manufacturers that support MCAA programs follows the line of sound business management and is a credit to the industry.

Cone Penetrometer Accepted by ASTM
The American Society for Testing & Materials has accepted the use of the cone penetrometer (AMG Standard-104) for field-testing of mortar. Since ASTM designation C-270 is not a field test for mortar, the cone penetrometer can be used in conjunction with C-270 to determine the consistency of the field mortar sample used to fabricate the specimens for compressive strength tests. ASTM designation C-270 clearly states in Section 7 that "mortar mixed to a flow suitable for use in laying masonry units shall not be required to meet the strength given in Table 1 for the mortar specified." After extensive testing, the cone penetrometer has been proved to be a reliable instrument for determining the consistency of mortar for masonry units as the mortar is used in the field. It is well for a man to respect his vocation whatever it is, and to think himself bound to uphold it, and to claim for it the respect it deserves.- Charles Dickens. masonry • Nov./Dec., 1973
