Most of What Architects Specify Used in Building
When architects specify building products, the great majority of these products end up in the completed construction projects, a new study sponsored by Sweet's Division of McGraw-Hill Information Systems Co. confirms. The substitution rate is only 13.7%, according to the survey findings.
"For the last several years there has been increasing confusion and doubt about the role and importance of architectural specifications," Richard C. Crabtree, Sweet's vice president of marketing, said. "This report shows that over four out of five specs stick. There should no longer be any doubt about the importance of specs. Building product manufacturers cannot assume that the contractor or someone else will break a spec to accept their products."
