Scouts of America, Arlington Heights, III. The annual event, held in October, serves as a major fund-raising function. John G. Symons, president of Symons Corp., Des Plaines, III., received the Good Scout Award at the Construction Industry Lunch-O-Ree in recognition of his contributions to the construction industry and the community.

Bob Schroeder has assumed the post of coordinator of the Bricklayers' Apprentice School at Mt. Hood Community College, Portland, Ore. following the retirement of Ray Hord. The Ritchie Organization, Chestnut Hill, Mass., one of New England's largest architectural firms, is celebrating its 65th anniversary.

Peter Wozniak has been promoted to general distribution manager and Phillip W. Rich has been elevated to chief engineer for industrial and construction machinery of Massey-Ferguson, Inc., Des Moines, Ia. John A. Stefaniak has been named manager, facilities projects, for Hertz Equipment Rental Corp., New York City. Appointment of William F. Shannon to the post of Chicago district sales manager for the Huron Division, National Gypsum Co., Southfield, Mich., was effective October 1.


BANC Honors Mrs. DeHart

J. V. Isenhour, president of Sanford Brick Corp. and the Brick Association of North Carolina, presents a framed Certificate of Appreciation to Mrs. Louise DeHart for her 25 years of service as secretary and office manager of the association. She was honored at a luncheon in Greensboro for the efficient and cheerful manner in which she has handled her duties.


New Refractory Plant

General Refractories Co., U. S. Refractories Division, Pittsburgh, Pa., has announced plans to expand its Gary (Ind.) plant to include a $2 million clay, alumina specialties plant. The new facility will have an annual capacity to produce in excess of 40,000 tons of mortars, plastics and castables.


New Energy Conservation Office Established

Dr. Richard W. Roberts, director of the Commerce Department's National Bureau of Standards, has announced the establishment of a new Office of Energy Conservation (OEC) to advance the use of energy-efficient technology in buildings, communities and industry.

"A strong national commitment to energy conservation is absolutely essential if we are to achieve the goals of Project Independence and continue to prosper as a nation," Roberts said. "OEC will provide NBS and the Commerce Department with a more coordinated and interdisciplinary approach to help reach those goals."
