Contoured, wooden "pews" are upholstered in persimmon "carpeting" to facilitate acoustics. The pews also recall the days of the old Opry House which was converted from a gospel tabernacle some three decades ago.
The Grand Ole Opry House is the focal point of the $40 million Opryland, U.S.A., a 369-acre complex devoted to entertainment, recreation, broadcasting and convention activities. The roof slopes downward from the near-square auditorium portion of the building in three directions, forming covered porch-like entrances at the front and two sides.
