One of the events that helped to make MCAA's 1974 Annual Convention last February the largest in the association's history was the Educational Trade Show in the Convention Center of the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. Literally hundreds of mason contractors and special guests toured the exhibits that were sponsored by many of the nation's leading suppliers to the construction industry.


Hertz Expands in N.W.
In a move to expand service for the growing Northwest region, Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. of New York City is opening a new construction equipment yard in Everett, Wash. The facility will have 1,800 square feet of shop and storage space plus a 600 square foot office.


Slide Program Boosts

Power Tool Safety
The Power Tool Institute, Mt. Prospect, III., is circulating a 25-minute slide presentation as the latest part of its program to promote on-the-job safety with power tools.

The 41-slide set is available complete with an illustrated script covering most safety situations and hazards encountered with power tools on the job site. The program utilizes photographs and cartoons to dramatically, and sometimes humorously, demonstrate hazards and safety procedures.

Ideal's Earnings Rise
In its annual report to shareholders, Ideal Basic Industries, Inc. of Denver, the nation's largest producer of portland cement and potash, announced record revenues of $227 million, up 11%, and net income of $25.5 million, up 17.5% over 1972. The report indicated that return on shareholders' equity increased from 11.2% in 1972 to 12.6% in 1973.

Lone Star Sales Rise
Lone Star Industries, Inc., Greenwich, Conn., has reported record sales and earnings in 1973. Sales and other revenues increased to $685.8 million, compared with $481 million in 1972. Net income rose 17% to $28.3 million in 1972. Earnings per common share increased 19% to $2.57 from $2.16 in 1972.


Grace Builds New Plant
The Construction Products Division of W. R. Grace & Co., Cambridge, Mass., has announced plans to erect a $2.5 million plant in the upper Midwest for producing paper-laminated polystyrene foam board.

Scheduled for completion in 1975, the new facility will serve customers in the north and northeastern areas of the United States. Sales are expected to be mostly in the construction field.
