Maryland Clay Holds Housing Conference
Maryland Clay Products sponsored a large meeting at its Beltsville (Md.) plant which featured Sen. Walter F. Mondale (D-Minn.) and Gladys Spellman, Maryland congressional candidate, as speakers on October 24. The conference, which was covered by the Washington press, also included representatives of business and labor.
Sen. Mondale noted that the "tight money policy of the administration has squeezed this industry (housing) almost to death. It is time for some real leadership to restore jobs and get the economy moving again."
Paul Payne, Maryland Clay's sales manager, labeled the meeting a success because it "clearly dramatized the plight of all those segments in the housing industry and the need to get Congress to do something positive and soon to make money more available and cheaper."
Toronto to Host Canadian Masonry Contractors

A civic proclamation by the city of Toronto has designated the week of February 9-15 "Masonry Week in Toronto" to coincide with the conference.
Technical sessions will include discussions of mortar and masonry wall assembly, fire ratings, loadbearing construction, job contracts and arbitration, and all-weather construction.
