Display Wins First Honor Award
This "Man and Masonry" display won the First Honor Award for excellence of design at the 1975 convention of the Michigan Society of Architects in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The all-industry display was co-sponsored by the Masonry Institute of Michigan, the Mid-East Region of the Brick Institute of America, and the Concrete Products Guild of Michigan. The wall sections, which emphasized the energy saving characteristics of insulated masonry, and other components of the display were laid up by apprentices from Bricklayers Local #17, Kalamazoo. The Vandermay Construction Company of Kalamazoo, a member of the Michigan Mason Contractors Association, served as general contractor for the display project. "It was this industry-wide effort that made for such a successful exhibit," said MIM executive director, John A. Heslip.
