Marriott Inn Utilizes BlocBond
Atlanta's new 300-room Marriott Inn/Hotel is being constructed with Fiberglas BlocBond, produced by Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation. This new masonry product eliminates the need for mortar in concrete block construction. As shown, the load bearing end sections of the hotel are dry-laid to the desired height with an 1/8 inch layer of BlocBond mix trowelled on each side. Use of the BlocBond system results in stronger walls than those constructed with conventional block and mortar. The BlocBond walls also are water resistant and fire rated. In addition to the exterior wall sections, many of the non-load bearing interior partitions in the hotel were built with BlocBond. Scheduled for completion in 1976, the new Marriott will include the 16-story tower, a three-story wing and several one-story connecting structures. Allen & O'Hara, Memphis, is the general contractor and Dixie Construction Co., Atlanta, is the masonry contractor.
