"Energy Conservation Program Guide for Industry and Commerce." Prepared by National Bureau of Standards in cooperation with the Federal Energy Administration. 212 pp.; $2.50. Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402.
This new energy conservation handbook can be used by building contractors and commercial and private organizations to establish or improve ongoing energy conservation programs. The book outlines specific ways to audit energy use and provides a check list of energy conservation opportunities which have been identified and used successfully by industry to reduce energy consumption.
Other sections of the book provide valuable supporting information for conservation programs including financial analysis procedures for evaluating projects; sources of information on energy conservation; safety, health and pollution considerations impacting on energy conservation; measurement techniques and instrumentation for energy-related flows, and an energy conservation bibliography.
"Highlights of the New Pension Reform Law." 368 pp.; paperback. $4.50 (reduced multiple copy prices will be quoted on request). BNA Books, 1231 25th St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20037.
What has been described as a worker-protection statute without parallel in American history the landmark Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 is the subject of a timely new book prepared by the editorial staff of the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc.
The work offers employers and unions and their legal advisers a detailed analysis and explanation of the provisions of the Act, the complete text of the Joint Explanatory Statement of the Committee of Conference (generally referred to as the "Statement of the Managers"), and the final, official text of the law as amended after being reported out of conference. The amendments involve several major and nearly one-hundred minor changes in the conference committee's bill.
Since the Act is of exceptional length and complexity with more than 60 requirements for new regulations to be developed by the Labor Department, the clear and concise summary of what the new law permits, requires and forbids as provided by the BNA editorial staff in this book is an essential supplement to the "Statement of the Managers."
