St. Louis Masonry Council's AIA Display
The Masonry Council of St. Louis' display at the AIA Central States regional conference was acclaimed as "outstanding, unique, colorful" by the architects attending the three-day meeting recently at Stouffer's Riverfront Towers in St. Louis.
Impressive masonry display at recent AIA Central States regional conference in St. Louis showed masonry products in a variety of applications. The exhibit was the first promotional activity of the newly-formed Masonry Council of St. Louis, an organization of area contractors and suppliers.
The exhibit, which took two days to construct, displayed masonry products in thought-provoking applications, and was one of the most dynamic displays of masonry ever seen in St. Louis.
In the eight-booth exhibit, the many facets of masonry, as well as the limitless design possibilities of this flexible building material, were displayed.
Included in the display were a flowing curved wall, a massive brick wall with a round opening, standard concrete blocks laid in an unusual manner, colorful stone columns and panels, glazed lightweight block units displayed in an enticing array of colors, and prefabricated panels.
Each of the installations showed the variety of applications available with masonry and its flexibility in design.
In addition, there was a booth devoted to supplying architects with printed information on the many qualities of masonry, including energy conservation, fire resistance, sound transmission, freedom from maintenance, durability and others.
Members of the Masonry Council of St. Louis are Alton Brick-Concrete Products Co. (Division Schotto Inc.), Brick Institute of America-Region 5, F. F. Kirchner Inc., Masonry Systems of Missouri Inc., Meramec Valley Block Co., Midwest Cut Stone Co., Midwest Glazed Products Inc., and St. Louis Masonry Development Trust.
