Prepared under the editorial direction of Cyril M. Harris, this comprehensive reference covers all the definitions encountered in the daily practice of architecture and construction, as well as the major terms from associated fields. It defines terms found on drawings and in specifications, including building products and materials, and in areas dealing with design, appearance, performance, installation, and testing.

Profusely illustrated and written for the non-specialist, the Dictionary also includes both traditional and recently developed materials, definitions of finishes, coatings, and surfacings, and terms relating to the building trades. In addition, it covers those definitions used in the control of the environment in buildings, such as air-conditioning, heating, waste-disposal, and fire-protection systems. Definitions of terms from various engineering specialties have been written for those who are interested in the terms but are not themselves specialists in these fields.

In-depth coverage of terms found in Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance architecture, as well as definitions used in urban planning and landscape architecture, are provided in this work of wide scope.

Industrial relations executives, union officials, labor lawyers, and teachers and students of labor law will welcome the revised and expanded fourth edition of How To Take A Case Before The National Labor Relations Board, just published by BNA Books, a division of The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. (BNA), Washington, D. C.

This authoritative guide through the maze of policies, rules, and procedures that have resulted from nearly forty years of Board activity in the fact of a constantly mounting caseload answers virtually every question that can be asked about the mechanics of Board operations.

It outlines the legal framework within which the Board operates, describes the Board's structure, functions, and jurisdiction, and explains how hearings are conducted, how decisions are reached, and how rulings are enforced. It sets forth the procedures that must be followed in representation cases, decertification cases, union-shop de-authorization referendums, unfair-labor-practice cases, back-pay proceedings, and jurisdictional dispute cases. It provides timetables showing in detail how, when, and where to file required forms and documents. It tells how to prepare a case, how to present evidence, how to appeal a ruling. "How To Take A Case Before The National Labor Relations Board," Fourth Edition, is available from the publisher, BNA Books, 1231 25th Street, N. W., Washington, D. C. 20037 at $17.50 per copy.

Foreman Training Programs

Supervisory development programs for masonry foremen are underway in the Detroit and East Lansing areas by the Masonry Institute of Michigan. The Detroit program started on January 20th at McGregor Memorial Conference Center, Wayne State University, and will continue for 10-weeks. This outstate program will be held on February 26-28 at the Kellog Center, Michigan State University, East Lansing.

Both programs will be conducted by Dr. Raymond S. Ross and his colleagues from the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.

National Gypsum Wins Case

Judge Barrington D. Parker of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia has dismissed a Justice Department antitrust contempt suit against National Gypsum Company of Buffalo, New York, its Chairman of the Board, Colon Brown, and other gypsum manufacturers and their officials on grounds that the action violated their United States Constitutional rights. Judge Parker, in granting the motion to dismiss, stated that this case "would contravene the Constitutional protection against double jeopardy and would constitute an undue harassment contrary to fundamental notions of due process." He also stated that to subject the defendants to a trial of this case would "violate the concepts of fairness."
