Award Winning Structure
(Continued from page 23) Three prominent Detroit architects, all Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, judged the entries and selected the bank building as the recipient of the 1976 Honor Award for Excellence in Masonry Design.
The judges were C. T. (Tom) Harris, FAIA, of Smith, Hinchman & Grylls Associates, Inc., Detroit; Gino Rossetti, FAIA, of Rossetti Associates, Inc., Detroit; and Harry Vaporciyan, FAIA, of Giffels Associates, Inc., Detroit.
"The award winner's most interesting feature is its handsome, well-proportioned street elevation," Harris said. "Its grand scale is in keeping with the image of banking and its downtown location. The sand mold brick exterior is an integral structural element in this bearing wall building and lends a warm ambience."
Mason contractor on the winning project was Hagerty Construction Company of Fremont.

Engineer Schools
An educational project, with the goal of getting masonry information into the schools of engineering in the U.S. and Canada, was planned at the Fall Board Meeting of the International Masonry Institute. The 1977 program will involve, as a first step, the appointment of an Advisory Council of several Deans of Schools of Engineering.
Meeting with them, IMI will map out the strategy to get masonry films, educational audio-visual aids, instructional publications, etc., into all accredited engineering schools in North America.
