Jos. L. Muscarelle Center
(Continued from page 23) machine shop operations so that students may have experience in building components and systems.
Both labs and their equipment storage rooms were designed to give students and equipment easy access to outside lab study areas and the exterior.
The computer room, containing four terminals for on-line computer use by faculty and students, is adjacent to the labs.
Located on the Center's second floor are five classrooms and a large drafting room with natural light from a northern exposure. This extends out over the main entrance of the structure providing shelter and giving the building a distinctive, but attractive irregular shape.
The classrooms have provisions for audio-visual equipment including closed circuit television reception. All classrooms were sized to accommodate tables rather than tablet armchairs since the tables are much more conducive to the use of plans, maps and numerous handbooks and reference materials.
The building is situated on a particularly interesting site. Located on a steeply sloping embankment above a plain adjacent to the Hackensack River, the building guides students and visitors to the main pedestrian entrance to the campus.
Visible from adjacent highways, the center is softly lit at night. Its attractive plaza has a multi-level approach that will be extended into a large commons in the future.
The structure was designed to reflect clearly, boldly and simply... its plan and purpose. There was no specific attempt made to blend it with neighboring buildings or to compete with them architecturally. As a result, the building is distinctive yet very comfortable in its surroundings.

The Roman philosopher and statesman Cicero said it some 2,000 years ago, and it is still true. The six mistakes of man:
1-The delusion that personal gain is made by crushing others.
2-The tendency to worry about things that cannot be changed or corrected.
3-Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it.
4-Refusing to set aside trivial preferences.
5-Neglecting development and refinement of the mind and not acquiring the habit of reading and studying.
6-Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do.
