Washington Mutual Parking Lot

Vancouver, Washington
Architect: Wm. Donald Cassady & Associates
General Contractor: Reimers & Jolivette
Landscape Architect: McArthur/Gardner/Partnership
Mason Contractor: L. C. Pardue, Inc. (MCAA)

The parking lot of Washington Mutual Savings Bank in the core area of Vancouver was recently included in an awards program of the Vancouver Chamber of Commerce that cited outstanding construction projects for their visual impact, imagination, tangible function, architectural detail, and landscaping.

The Mutual Savings facility is more than just a bland parking lot. Its attractive masonry bench and landscaping (right) create a park-like atmosphere in the financial center, the beginning of an envisioned future mall area. The drinking fountain (top), a first for the city, is protected by a brick serpentine wall and adjoins paving brick areas for automobile parking and pedestrians. This masonry project is being adopted by other firms in Vancouver as a feature of their parking areas.
