IMI Releases New Industry Publication
The International Masonry Institute (IMI) has published a new booklet which examines the cost/performance characteristics of wall materials. Entitled More Building Wall for the Money, the publication is intended for use by building owners, architects and engineers.
The booklet emphasizes the importance of considering the cost and performance of walls together-not separately-and of specifying wall systems that perform several functions, such as structural support, fire protection, sound control and finish wall, in addition to enclosure.
Individual copies are available free as well as quantity requests by IMI contributors. The charge to others for quantity orders is 30¢ per copy. Contact: IMI, 823-15th St., N.W.. Washington, D.C. 20005.
THEFT A PROBLEM continued from page 13
Committee and a special Committee of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).
During the session, which took place in Chicago during May, the contractors and distributors explored possible means of cooperating at both the local and national levels to help reverse the rising theft and vandalism tide. AGC member firm representatives indicated that many contractors are looking for more anti-theft accessories on the new machinery they purchase.
AGC and AED members also voiced mutual concern over what another serious problem-product liability-is doing to construction equipment costs. Studies have shown that many equipment distributors and manufacturers are facing sharp increases in their insurance premiums because of the proliferation of product liability lawsuits in recent years.
The representatives stressed the need for everyone involved in construction to observe safe working procedures, and called for support of proposed product liability reform legislation.
Overheard in an elevator: "Whew, somebody's deodorant has given out." To which a fellow passenger replied, "Well, it isn't mine. I don't use any."
