New Mercy Hospital for Cedar Rapids
This outstanding masonry structure was recently completed for Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The new building typifies the trend toward the use of masonry in virtually all types of health care facilities because of its fire safety for patients and proven energy conserving qualities for the institution. This building, through the use of brick, also blends well into the existing surroundings. Total cost of the project was $11,000,000, with $640,000 of this representing the cost of masonry.
The architect was Hansen. Lind, Meyer of Iowa City, with masonry by Seedorff Masonry. Inc. (MCAA). Strawberry Point, la. The general contractor for Phase I of the project was J. P. Cullen & Son, Janesville, Wis. Rindernecht Associates, Inc., Cedar Rapids, la., was the general for Phase II.
