INTRODUCTION
explains the purpose of MCAA's Rough Terrain Fork-Lift Safety Training Program and the economic chain of events that led to its conception. It outlines the philosophy of why man working with machine is so vital in today's construction industry from both production and safety viewpoints.
SECTION 1
YOU-THE OPERATOR
discusses the fork-lift operator, proper mental attitudes, safe/unsafe practices, and maneuvering skills.
SECTION 2
THE FORK-LIFT
describes what a fork-lift actually is a lever on wheels operating on the teeter-totter principal. The fundamentals of momentum, stability and gravity are covered to put fork-lift operation into perspective.
SECTION 3
THE CONDITIONS
alerts the fork-lift operator to develop "defensive driving" skills on the job-site where wet and uneven ground, vehicles, obstructions and inclement weather conditions prevail.
SECTION 4
THE LOAD
provides instruction on load limits, lifting and landing points, placing of loads, and stockpiling materials for maximum advantage. The handling of crane type fork-lifts as opposed to conventional machines is also covered in this section.
SECTION 5
SAFETY THROUGH INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE
outlines a sensible maintenance checklist to keep fork-lifts safe and in peak operating order. Everything from warning devices and hydraulic systems to engine and power train inspection are covered.
SECTION 6
