Nessel Appointed Funds
Administrator in Canada
The trustees of the Masonry Advancement Fund of British Columbia have announced the appointment of Ronald W. Nessel as funds administrator. Nessel, who brings more than 20 years of construction industry experience to this position, also is the new executive director of the Canadian Masonry Contractors Association's B.C. and Yukon Chapter.
Nessel formerly worked with W. R. Grace Co. as a provincial manager in the construction products division in western Canada, was a member of the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Construction Industry and in the same capacity in British Columbia, and was committee chairman for public and internal relations of the construction industry in British Columbia.
In 1973 he formed and operated Merit Installations, a firm specializing in caulking/structural concrete repair and technical coating applications.
Ontario Block Producers
Take Firm Metric Stand
Members of the Ontario Concrete Block Association have advised all customers, designers, and government departments that they "mean business in the future" regarding metrication. Commencing January 1, 1979, they said, "future business" will, in fact, mean "metric business only."
1978 was designated the year during which metric construction would commence in Canada. Most government and some private projects have already been designated in metric dimensions.
The block association is now targeting full-tilt on 1979 as the year for full metrication for production purposes. The association said, "Economic conditions have contributed to a less than buoyant construction year. Hence the backlog of projects should be low and the changeover should produce minimal problems. Consideration will be given to delayed projects to alleviate hardships."
"A man of second-rate ability with enthusiasm will often outstrip one of first-rate ability without enthusiasm."-Frederick Williamson, former president, New York Central Railway.
