IMI CONDUCTS 8TH ANNUAL PROMOTION MEETING IN NEW ORLEANS
A record turnout of 164 persons attended the International Masonry Institute's 8th Annual Promotion Meeting for U.S. and Canadian local/regional masonry promotion groups at the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans, La., May 7-10.
Delegates were welcomed to the meeting by IMI chairman Charles F. Velardo and IMI advisor John T. Joyce, secretary of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen (BAC). They were greeted by New Orleans Mayor Ernest "Dutch" Morial. He briefly discussed "Historic Preservation," and presented to IMI executive director Neal English a key to the city and a proclamation naming May 8th "International Masonry Day" in New Orleans.
The theme of the meeting was "The Marketing of Masonry." Herbert Zeltner, a marketing consultant from New York City, outlined for the promotion leaders how their efforts should tie in and be identified with those of IMI. He pointed out that all successful marketing programs have a national ad campaign, such as that of IMI, as well as local programs which identify with and benefit from the combined marketing effort.
The results of an extensive market survey undertaken by IMI were reviewed at the meeting by Ray Lackey, senior vice president of Henry J. Kaufman & Associates, IMI's public relations and advertising agency. The survey was continued on page 7
