New Kiln for Flintkote
Workmen at the Flintkote Co.'s Calaveras Cement Division plant near San Andreas, Calif., set new refractory bricks in place to form the replacement lining of one of the plant's wet-process kilns. The bricks form a continuous arch and provide insulation to reduce heat loss and protect the steel shell of the kiln itself. Temperatures can reach 2,700 degrees F. in the burning zone of the kiln during the process of forming cement clin kers. The linings must be replaced every few years as the bricks gradually lose their insulating ability.

Wisconsin Urges Citizens To Honor Masonry Field
Wisconsin citizens were urged to "recognize that the masonry industry has provided our state with many of its historical and most distinguished buildings" during Masonry Week, May 1-6, as proclaimed by Acting Governor Martin J. Schreiber.

"In this era of energy consciousness," Schreiber said, "masonry has come to the forefront as a material that requires a minimum of energy to produce and results in a building that requires a minimum of energy to operate."

The Masonry Institute of Wisconsin staged various promotional events in recognition of Masonry Week.

Lift Truck Operators to Complete In Decathlon
Lift truck operators across the country will compete for cash prizes and a chance to advance to regional and national competition under a program developed by Clark Equipment Co.

Called the Clark Decathlon, the program was launched this spring and will continue through the summer. In the competition, operators are required to maneuver Clark lift trucks through 10 skill and safety tests.

Local Clark Decathlons are being sponsored by Clark Industrial Truck dealers. Regionals are planned in Las Vegas and New Orleans during October. The national event, where the first-place winner will be awarded a $3,000 cash prize, is scheduled for March, 1979 in Chicago.

More information is obtainable from local Clark dealers or by contacting: Marketing Services Department, Clark Equipment Co., Industrial Truck Division, 525 N. 24th St., Battle Creek, Mich. 49016.

BIA Offers Portfolio
Energy efficiency and contemporary design are featured in a new portfolio of brick homes for southern lifestyles available from Brick Institute of America Region 9.

Energy efficiency is a key factor in each design, such as brick walls which, because of their density, reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. The designs also incorporate other architectural techniques that save energy, such as compact design and careful placement of doors and windows.

The portfolio is available for $2.00 from Brick Institute of America Region 9, 100 Northcreek, Suite 280, Atlanta, Ga. 30327.

RYD-UP SCAFFOLDING
Special truss support provides sturdy 10-foot sections... 30% less handling cost.

Put your masons on a RYD-UP scaffold and watch savings, production and efficiency get off the ground. Ten-foot sections provide 30% less scaffold to move, handle or erect over seven-foot platforms. Cross-planked platform provides extra strength and space for brick, block and mortar boards. No lengthwise slots to catch wheels.

Studies show production can rise 20%. Easy-to-pump double-action hoist maintains fully loaded scaffold at efficient wall height.

For more information about how you can move up with truss-constructed RYD-UP scaffolding, call or write: Automatic Devices, Inc., 2440 Adie Road, Maryland Heights, Missouri 63043. Phone 314/432-5710.
