HIGH-LIFT GROUTING
continued from page 10
lifts of approximately 4 feet. It shall be consolidated by vibrating during placing. The grouting of any section of wall between control barriers shall be completed to the top of the wall in one day.
Walls exceeding the unsupported height of 18 times the wall thickness shall be adequately braced against wind and other forces during construction. There is a greater need for bracing of the walls during construction than there is for ordinary masonry walls.
During normal construction, there is little need to brace masonry walls of ordinary dimensions while the rest of the structure is being completed. However, in high-lift grouting. this requirement must be checked carefully because until the grout is placed, there is no anchorage of the steel into the grout space to develop strength.
In summary, high-lift grouting should provide better brickwork at lower cost with greater assurance of good, easy inspection, and is easily specified.
The complete story of high-lift grouting is demonstrated and explained in a 16 mm color-sound film entitled "Masonry Meets a Challenge."
